Glass Dressing Room
My options are limited, but I'm excited
A treasure trove of shells is spread out
My current ensemble was getting a bit boring
Waiting for all the staring eyes to divert, I make my move
It's a hard job squeezing out of my shell,
Maybe I need to scuttle a few more laps a day.
I nestle myself into a slightly larger shell
It feels quite nice and roomy,
The stripes on it make me feel invincible
In the reflection of my glass house,
I see myself
I suddenly feel...concerned
Was my lower abdomen always this big?
I slink back into my old shell,
I don't bother trying on another one.
I see my two owners watching me
Shocked and appalled, I hide from their eyes.
Why is trying on new shells so hard for us hermit crabs?
But I take my words back.
I'm just as guilty as them...
I watch them undress sometimes, too.
